Effective Credit Risk Management for Financial Institutions

Loan is the largest asset and at the same time it is the most obvious sources of credit risk. Credit Risk is the most serious and hazardous of all risks facing banking system or financial institutions. Some financial institutions have collapsed or experienced problems due to inefficient credit risk systems such as inadequate of credit policy, unclear work responsibility, lack of loan supervision, failure to identify fraud etc. Credit Risk Management is referred to the process of managing all activities that are related to credit operations in order to avoid, mitigate, offset and transfer the risks are inherent.

Therefore, financial institutions and credit operators should invest in enhancing capacity of their staff on how to manage credit risk effectively to minimize the considerable impacts and loss and to improve their credit performance to match with the recent credit matured market.

After completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the typical credit risk sources and know about risks associated with financial institutions.
  • Compare and contrast the main risks in credit operations, the definition of credit risk and its impacts.
  • Develop effective tools and process for managing credit risk in financial institutions.

Methodology

Trainers

Mr. Tauch Ngam Youra
Assistant Head of Training Center

Mr. Tauch Ngam Youra has started his career with ACLEDA Bank since 1998. Since then, he has had extensive experience by closely working in credit operations such as credit officer, internal auditor, district team leader, branch manager. He was one of the founders to establish and expand ACLEDA Bank Lao Ltd, Lao PDR, successfully in the position of Vientiane Branch Manager and as the representative member of branch managers in the Board Credit & Risk Committee. In his functional responsibilities, he led and anaged credit operations, and built up knowledge, skills, and attitude of chief and credit officers to provide and maintain both quantity and quality of loan portfolio increasingly and healthily.

In addition, from 2009 to 2016, he was Head of Public Relations Department of AIB promoting and cooperatively organizing many MF training and study tour programs for other organizations and the public locally and internationally. Since 2017 to present, he works as Assistant Head of Training Centre of AIB.

Before ACLEDA Bank, from 1982 to 1997, he used to be an official of Banteay Meanchey Provincial Branch of the National Bank of Cambodia.

He received a Master's Degree in Public Administration (MPA) in 2009, from the Chamroeun University of Poly-technology (CUP), Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He also has undertaken study tours to Bank RAKYAT (BRI) in Indonesia, and attended training courses on MFI Management and ToT with the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, in Germany and the Boulder Institute of Micronance ITC-ILO, in Turin, Italy.

Mr. Tuy Sovannara
Assistant Head of Training Center

Born on 1978, he obtained a Master's Degree of Business Administration (MBA) major in Finance from National University of Management, Cambodia in 2011. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English for Business Communication (English Based, International Program) from Pannasastra University of Cambodia in 2012. He gained a Bachelor of Economics in Banking and Finance at Norton University, Cambodia in 2000. He has attended numerous short courses on finance and banking, training of trainer, management and leadership which were organized by ACLEDA Bank Plc. since 2000.

He started working for ACLEDA Bank Plc. as a credit officer in 2000 and was promoted as a chief of credit officer in 2001. He moved to work as an Auditor in 2003 and was changed to Accountant at Operation Department, Headquarter, ACLEDA Bank Plc. in 2004. He was promoted as an Assistant Vice President and Manager of Accounting Unit at Trade Finance Division in 2007. He became a Senior Specialist at Trade Finance Division in 2013. He has been assigned as a member of trainer pool of ACLEDA Bank Plc. since 2007 and responsible for delivering training courses on task of accountant, nancial and accounting management, nancial statement analysis, planning and budgeting, ratio analysis, off-balance sheet entry of trade finance, set up credit line, input loan in bulk into system, and prepared monthly reports to management. He took a position as a senior Faculty, specialized in finance and accounting Training Center in 2017 and He currently hold a position as Assistant Head of Training Center at ACLEDA INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS.
